Who We Publish

​

encore's mission is to elevate and create platforms for Wilmington artists and writers. We definite Wilmington as the broader Cape Fear area, covering counties of New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, Pender, and Onslow. We don't accept submissions from writers who aren't local to the area, and we don't publish stories that aren't relevant to the region.

Everything published in encore was written and created by real humans. Please don't send us work or pitches that were written with AI, researched with AI, or touched by AI in any way. We are interested in human voices, human art, and human connections.

​How to Submit

 

We accept creative and journalistic submissions. You can also pitch us your idea, whether it's one you want to write yourself or a story in the community you think we should be aware of. Send pitches and completed submissions to encore.editorial@gmail.com. ​​​Please note that our staff is currently comprised of one full time director, one part-time editor, and a whole gaggle of volunteers and interns, so if we don't respond immediately, it isn't because we aren't interested—it's likely because we're drowning in our inboxes. We'll reach out with a response just as soon as we can!

We know your art and words are worth a lot, and we want to pay you when we can. We have a limited monthly budget for each category, with payments varying based on word counts and whether it appears both online and in print or online only. Eventually, we aim to be able to pay artists more for each article. (Want to help us reach our goal of paying our people more? Donate here!)

Interested in writing for us on assignment or on a consistent basis? Reach out at encore.editorial@gmail.com with your resume, what areas you're interested in covering, and relevant writing samples. Please note that we only publish writers local to North Carolina with preference toward those local to Cape Fear and surrounding areas.​

When & Where We Publish

Back in the day, encore was published weekly. Now, we print quarterly, with a goal to move to monthly in the future. We publish online content all year round. We like to let a print issue have its moment in the spotlight before we add its online content to the website. When the one issue is printed, we'll post the previous issue's content online, and so on. We'll consider your work for both print and online unless you indicate otherwise. Please note that print space is limited and can change last minute for a number of reasons, so we can't guarantee your work will appear in a print issue.

Submitting Events & Press Releases

 

Got an event you want the community to know about? You can submit your event and all the details, including photographs, to our community calendar (scroll to the bottom of the calendar and select the "submit your event" button). Due to staff limitations, we can't write a story about every event (we wish we could!), but we can share your event details to our community announcements section. You can send your press releases, photographs, and any additional information to encore.editorial@gmail.com.
