CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? Don’t Tell Comedy tells some (but not all) about their forthcoming mystery shows

And now for something completely different…!

If you are daring enough to take a leap on a night out and go somewhere (where?) and see something (what?) then Don’t Tell Comedy is just the mystery ticket for you. Don’t Tell Comedy will present shows on Friday, April 17 and Sunday, April 19 somewhere in the Cargo District. The exact location and lineup of comedians remains a secret until the morning of each show.

WHAAAAT?

I had the opportunity to ask Lew Morgante, producer of this event, a little bit about himself and this intriguing idea. He was originally a comedian who performed these shows in the Raleigh area. He was interested in bringing the show to here and voila!  He became a producer for the Wilmington branch.

Lew is no stranger to comedy or Wilmington. He started performing here in 2011 at the Nutt Street Comedy Room (precursor to the Dead Crow Comedy Room). At the encouragement of a friend, he went to the club for a month, watched, learned, got his courage up, hit the stage, and has been performing ever since. Other comedic pursuits include the Comedy Bingo show (a fun, interactive show that was part bingo, part improv, and part game show) and Gruff Goat Comedy (performing at Waterline Brewing on the first and third Wednesdays of the month).

Back to Don’t Tell Comedy! Lew let me know that DTC has shows taking place in 250 cities, always in unique locations and DRUM ROLL ... THIS IS THE FIRST ONE IN WILMINGTON!

So who will you see? According to Lew, “Lineups will be revealed during the show but you can expect anywhere from four to seven performers including local and regional comedians and some nationally touring comedians.”

Color me intrigued….

I asked Lew what makes this event particularly unique.  “The idea of a comedy club quality show and putting it in a non-comedy club setting with a focus on unique locations…buying a ticket without knowing where or who you will see involves a lot of trust that the producer will make it worth your time and money. There is also something exciting about getting an email the morning of the show telling you where the show is. Wilmington is a great place for comedy with a supportive comedy scene.”

Ready to support a new and inventive night out? Don’t Tell Comedy shows are $25 plus fees. Performances are Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.donttellcomedy.com/cities/wilmington-nc/

PS: Lew says one last thing! “If you are interested, you can also submit your venue on the Don’t Tell Comedy Website!”
