COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS: Lindsay M. Benton Foundation Marks 10 Years of Creating Change at Annual Volleyball Tournament
WILMINGTON, NC — The Lindsay M. Benton Foundation (LMBF) will celebrate a meaningful milestone on Saturday, September 26, 2026, when the community gathers for the 10th Annual LMBF Volleyball Tournament at Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill & Volleyball, 4240 Market Street in Wilmington.
The tournament begins at 10:15 a.m., with co-ed teams of four competing for $100 per team. Spectators are welcome to come out and enjoy the day while supporting the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser.
But behind the volleyball, raffle prizes and fun is the reason the event began.
Lindsay Benton was 17 years old when she was involved in a car accident the day before she was to begin her senior year of high school. Following her death, the Lindsay M. Benton Foundation was created to honor her life by continuing to support people, organizations and causes that reflect who Lindsay was and what mattered to her.
That connection remains at the heart of the Foundation’s giving today.
Going Beyond the Pink and FarmFest support causes that were important to Lindsay during her life. The LMBF Cheer, Art & Scholarship Fund was created in her honor, reflecting interests that were a meaningful part of her life and providing opportunities for young people in the community.
Lindsay’s legacy also continues through HonorBridge and Donate Life. Lindsay was an organ donor, and her decision to give the gift of life following her death created a lasting connection between her family, the Foundation and the importance of organ and tissue donation.
These are not simply organizations selected to receive proceeds from a fundraiser. Each one is connected in some way to Lindsay, her story and the legacy her family and community have worked to carry forward.
For 10 years, the annual volleyball tournament has brought people together to do exactly that.
The tournament is the Foundation’s primary annual fundraiser, helping LMBF continue its financial support of Going Beyond the Pink, HonorBridge/Donate Life, the LMBF Cheer, Art & Scholarship Fund, and FarmFest, which LMBF co-hosts with WCA.
This year’s theme, “A Decade of Creating Change Together,” recognizes not only the tournament’s 10th anniversary, but also the community of players, sponsors, businesses, volunteers, family and friends who have continued to support the Foundation year after year.
The September 26 event is family-friendly and open to the public. In addition to volleyball, Capt’n Bill’s offers a full-service bar and restaurant, and guests will have opportunities to win amazing raffle prizes donated by local businesses and supporters.
Whether you put together a team, come out to cheer on the players, purchase raffle tickets or simply spend the day with the LMBF community, everyone is invited to be part of this milestone year.

The Lindsay M. Benton Foundation was established to honor the life and legacy of Lindsay Benton, who died at age 17 following a car accident. Through fundraising, community partnerships, scholarships and charitable giving, the Foundation supports causes with a personal connection to Lindsay and continues her legacy by creating opportunities to help others.
